BROADCAST AWARDS

CONTEST RULES & FEES

  

BROADCAST ELIGIBILITY

Religion News Association's broadcast award categories are designed to recognize journalism excellence by measuring a journalist's grasp on a diversity of religion issues. Outlets that are owned or operated by a particular religion, faith community or religious group are not eligible. RNA membership is not required for entry. RNA's president and contest chairperson are not eligible to enter individual contests.

 
PRIZES

  • 1st place: $250 and citation
  • 2nd place: $150 and citation
  • 3rd place: $100 and citation

 

ENTRY INSTRUCTIONS

1. Prepare your entry in the format your award category requires. File size cannot exceed 30 MB. If submitting URLs, please indicate on the entry form which components should be judged.

TV/ Radio/ Podcast entrants: Submit URLs (preferred) or submit a single entry file (.mov, .wmv, .mp3, .mp4).

Documentary entrants: Submit a URL or mail two copies of a DVD to RNA Contests, 30 Neff Annex, Columbia, MO 65211

2. Complete an online entry form and submit your entry fee. If your entry was successfully submitted, you'll receive an e-mail confirmation.

Deadline: Enter online by March 1, 2018.

EXCELLENCE IN TELEVISION NEWS MAGAZINE RELIGION REPORTING


CONTEST RULES
  • Submit video and its related content from one religion story broadcast in 2017 on a news magazine television program.
  • Show length may not exceed 60 minutes.
  • Materials can be from a station's website, but the majority of the story must have been broadcast on television to be eligible.
  • Stories may have multiple credits, but if the entry wins, the award will be shared among all those credited for the work.
  • Transcripts are not required.
  • RNA reserves the right to limit the presentation of awards for insufficient entry numbers.

 

ENTRY FEES & DEADLINES

  • Early bird entry fee: $45 for members / $90 for non-members
  • Early bird deadline: January 29, 2018

  • Regular entry fee: $75 for members / $120 for non-members
  • Deadline: March 1, 2018

CONTEST RULES

  • Submit video and its related content from one religion story broadcast in 2017 on a local news television station.
  • Materials can be from a station's website, but the majority of the story must have been broadcast on television to be eligible.
  • Stories may have multiple credits, but if the entry wins, the award will be shared among all those credited for the work.

  • Submit video and its related content from one religion story broadcast in 2017 on a national network or cable news television station.
  • Materials can be from a station's website, but the majority of the story must have been broadcast on television to be eligible.
  • Stories may have multiple credits, but if the entry wins, the award will be shared among all those credited for the work. 
  • Transcripts are not required.
  • RNA reserves the right to limit the presentation of awards for insufficient entry numbers.

CONTEST RULES

  • Submit audio and its related content from one religion story broadcast in 2017 on a radio station or through a podcast (such as iTunes or Google Play).
  • For radio outlets: Materials can be from a station's website, but the majority of the story must have been broadcast on the radio to be eligible.
  • Stories may have multiple credits, but if the entry wins, the award will be shared among all those credited for the work. 
  • Transcripts are not required.
  • RNA reserves the right to limit the presentation of awards for insufficient entry numbers.

 

ENTRY FEES & DEADLINES

  • Early bird entry fee: $35 for members / $70 for non-members
  • Early bird deadline: January 29, 2018
  • Regular entry fee: $45 for members / $80 for non-members

EXCELLENCE IN RELIGION DOCUMENTARIES

CONTEST RULES

  • Submit one documentary (two copies on DVD or a URL), which in 2017 was distributed independently, shown publicly at least once, or aired on a network, cable or satellite television station for initial distribution.
  • Maximum length is 140 minutes.
  • Video can be from a station's website, but the majority of the story must have been broadcast on television to be eligible.
  • Documentaries may have multiple credits, but if the entry wins, the award will be shared among all those credited for the work.
  • Transcripts are not required.
  • RNA reserves the right to limit the presentation of awards for insufficient entry numbers.
