Author recounts her unique friendship with soon-to-be saint

SAN FRANCISCO – Donna-Marie Cooper O’Boyle is one of America’s most prolific Catholic authors and a well-known EWTN personality who had a unique 10-year friendship with someone she called her spiritual mother: Mother Teresa, who will be canonized Sunday, Sept. 4, 2016, in Rome.

Cooper O’Boyle recounts her friendship with Mother Teresa in her riveting book, THE KISS OF JESUS. She discusses the remarkable content of some of the 22 inspirational letters she received from Mother Teresa, the time when Mother Teresa blessed one of her unborn children and how Mother Teresa’s words of encouragement sustained her throughout the inner turmoil she suffered in being married to her then-troubled husband.

“I actually thought of Mother Teresa as a friend, a mentor and a mother figure,” says Cooper O’Boyle in THE KISS OF JESUS. “Her head wasn’t in the clouds as one might suppose. She was extremely down to earth and totally in touch with the practical needs of the day. She was no stranger to the realities of modern life and, therefore, was able to counsel people in a prudent and appropriate manner, all the while being in touch with the spiritual side of things, too.”

Cooper O’Boyle experienced many hardships throughout her life, including three miscarriages, abuse, single-motherhood and being held hostage by a deeply troubled man. But, no matter what, she knew she could count on Mother Teresa for spiritual guidance.

“Throughout the years I knew Mother Teresa, I continued to share my heart fully with her,” says Cooper O’Boyle in THE KISS OF JESUS. “She always responded with profound words intertwined with great love and generous prayers for me and my family. I felt blessed knowing a living saint whose sandals were firmly on the ground. … She was well aware of the realities of life; she knew all about pain and suffering. Even more important was her deep understanding about the value of suffering when united to our Lord’s. Mother Teresa’s words were a great comfort. In a letter to me she wrote, ‘Jesus shares His love with you and shares His suffering and pain.’”

“This extraordinary story will bring hope to all who are suffering,” Dan Burke, executive director of the National Catholic Register, says of THE KISS OF JESUS.
