A letter from Ansley Roan, RNA Board Member
Why give to RNA? As you’ve seen from the letters posted this week, each person has their own answer to that question, but for me it boils down to the fact that there is nothing else like it.
There’s no other organization with a close to 70-year history of supporting religion journalists. It serves as a standard-bearer for accuracy and elegance in religion reporting.
It’s the only organization that offers such great professional support and resources to religion journalists. Think of the following: ReligionLink, the annual conference, the “Reporting on Religion” primer, and the contests, where work is recognized and celebrated.
Ultimately, though, it’s the people of RNA who make it one of a kind. I’ve been so impressed by the generosity and kindness of respected religion reporters who are so encouraging to newcomers. I’ve benefited from this spirit of collegiality and I’ve had the opportunity to witness it over and over again.
When I first joined RNA, I didn’t realize it would open professional doors and offer opportunities for me to get better at the work I do. More importantly, I didn’t realize that some of these award-winning journalists would become friends. It’s a tribute to the members of RNA that this is the case. I want to give to RNA because I want to offer those opportunities to others.
In the shifting world of journalism, RNA is a constant. It promotes excellence and it offers professional support, but most of all it fosters a community for those who know that religion is the best beat.
Those are my reasons for supporting RNA, and you know yours. No matter what your budget, it’s easy to give to the Religion Newswriters Foundation—the charitable arm of RNA.
It's simple. Click the “donate now” button below.
From there, it’s point, click and give.
As a board member who’s benefited from this wonderful organization, thank you for your support.
