SEPT. 6, 2003 Religion Newswriters Association announces new award The Religion Newswriters Association announces a new award to be given for the first time in 2004. Named the Templeton Religion Story of the Year Award, the prize is funded by the John Templeton Foundation. Like the Templeton Religion Reporter of the Year Award, first place will carry a $3,500 prize. "This award, for the first time, allows anyone to enter our contests-even if they don't have an extensive body of work-because entrants only submit one story or serialized story," said RNA Executive Director Debra L. Mason. The award is open to any secular print media: newspapers, online news providers and magazines. Unlike several of RNA's other awards, this contest will not have anonymous entries. "For years we've heard complaints that our contests are not appropriate for magazine writers, particularly, because of their multiple bylines and varying writing styles," Mason said. "We hope this contest will appeal to them, as well as newspapers, to assure a vigorous competition." The deadline for the award is Feb. 1, 2004. The prize will be awarded at the 2004 awards banquet to be held Sept. 11, 2004, in Washington D.C. |
