How can you accurately, fairly and insightfully cover a faith community that includes up to 7 million individuals of wide-ranging ethnicities and races, representing first-generation immigrants as well as the descendants of African slaves?
To help answer this question, Religion Newswriters and program sponsor One Nation: Liberty and Justice for All, have identified leaders from the American Muslim community who will talk about: the basics of the faith, the leadership role of women, and the rise in civic participation among American Muslims. Together we have also invited journalists with extensive experience covering this community—to talk to you about the challenges of getting the story right.
One Nation is a philanthropic collaborative that is working to integrate diverse voices into mainstream media coverage in order to advance the principles of pluralism and tolerance.

Lynda Kraxberger has a “walk before you run” mentality when working with digital storytelling tools. In this two-hour workshop, she starts with the basics of online story forms and offers practical tips for writing more conversational copy. You’ll get performance tips and learn the underlying “grammar” that improves the quality of any visual story. Finally, you’ll walk away with a list of best practices for taking your own multimedia work to the next level.
Kraxberger teaches convergence journalism to students at the Missouri School of Journalism. She coaches students on multi-platform and multimedia storytelling for online, print, radio and television newsrooms. Her roots as a newscast producer in medium-market TV stations shaped her interest in visual storytelling. Now, she merges audio and video editing techniques with print to create “new” story forms online. In 2007, Kraxberger was awarded Missouri’s prestigious Kemper Fellowship for Outstanding Teaching.
