About the Award
The John M. Templeton Foundation funds the Templeton Story of the Year Award. Created in 2003, the contest honors the best single story or serialized story about religion, religious movements or religious figures and their effect on American life. The foundation also sponsors the Templeton Religion Reporter of the Year Award. Beginning his work on Wall Street in 1937, Templeton established some of the world's largest and most successful international investment funds. He eventually sold his funds in 1992 for $440 million. His philanthropy extends toward projects, college courses, books and essays on the benefits of cooperation between science and religion. The Templeton Religion Reporter of the Year and Templeton Story of the Year are the most prestigious RNA prizes and boast the highest award amounts of RNA's contests—$3,500 each.
