What donations support

With significant grant funding, Religion Newswriters has become the pre-eminent trainer for journalists writing about religion.

Our projects—such as our extensive resource Web site, www.RNA.org, and ReligionLink—create important connections to the 58-year-old Religion Newswriters Association’s work.

Highlights from our 2007 accomplishments include:

•Continued to count more than 60,000 monthly visitors to our Web site;

•Received $52,000 from the John Templeton Foundation to support reporting contests;

•Received $4,000 from the Ethics & Excellence in Journalism Foundation for Fellowships for Reporters New to the Beat, and $5,000 from the Scripps Foundation to fund scholarships to the annual RNA conference;

• Received $7,700 from Russell and M.L. Chandler to expand and increase the Chandler Awards Program for college journalists;

•Awarded 26 conference scholarships;

•Expanded our donor pool, increasing interest in our organization among journalists and others who value religion reporting;    

•Increased our membership rolls by 13 percent, welcoming 64 members from media outlets nationally;

•Awarded more than 40 college tuition scholarships to full-time journalists who took college and seminary religion courses.
