Member webinar: Religion & the Future of Technology

Join experts for a members-only, free webinar at 1 p.m. Eastern on March 6 to discuss transhumanism, gene editing, life in outer space and more. RNA and ReligionLink have partnered to bring you "Religion & the Future of Technology."

  • When: 1-2 p.m. EST on Wednesday, Mar. 6, 2019

  • Who: This webinar is only available to Religion News Association members

  • What: An hour-long discussion on religion and the future of technology. In 2018, ReligionLink published multiple source guides on religion and science, diving into topics like transhumanism, gene editing and the potential for life in outer space. This webinar will address how rapid technological advancements, including in the area of artificial intelligence, affect religion and spirituality.
  • Speakers:

    • Janna Anderson is a professor of communications and director of the Imagining the Internet Center at Elon University. She is a senior contract researcher with the Pew Research Internet & Technology Project and has worked as lead author on dozens of reports for Pew, including the recent “AI and the Future of Humans.”

    • Amy Michelle DeBaets is an assistant professor of medical humanities and clinical bioethics at the Oakland University William Beaumont School of Medicine. She co-directs the Religion, Spirituality and Bioethics Group of the American Society of Bioethics and Humanities and also serves as the co-chair of the Human Enhancement and Transhumanism Unit of the American Academy of Religion.

    • Micah Redding is the executive director of the Christian Transhumanist Association and an international speaker on artificial intelligence, transhumanism, and the future of humanity. He hosts the Christian Transhumanist Podcast, where he interviews leading thinkers in religion and technology, and he organized the first Christian Transhumanist Conference.
